A debut collection named for El-Kurd's grandmother, carrying one Palestinian family's movement from Haifa to Sheikh Jarrah through memory, dispossession, anger, and survival.
Rifqa is Mohammed El-Kurd’s first poetry collection. Its title belongs to his grandmother; the publisher connects her exile from Haifa to the family’s current dispossession in Sheikh Jarrah, giving the book its intimate line through the Nakba and an ongoing struggle over home.
The publisher describes a collection that moves between family memory and public argument. That scale matters: El-Kurd does not treat the grandmother as an emblem detached from a life. Jasmine at the family door, remembered displacement, and the pressure on the family’s home remain connected rather than becoming separate stories.
