Ghassan Kanafani:
the sword and the neck.
On 16 October 1970, ABC journalist Richard Carleton asked Kanafani why his organisation would not enter what Carleton called peace talks. Kanafani rejected the premise before answering it.
“Conversation between the sword and the neck.”
A common social caption wrongly fuses two answers into “capitulation between the sword and the neck.” In the recording, Kanafani first rejects the proposed talks as capitulation and surrender; the sword-and-neck comparison comes after Carleton asks again why they cannot simply talk. ABC publishes no official transcript, so the clip package will carry a human-reviewed transcript before release.
