We Are Not Numbers: The Voices of Gaza's Youth
Ahmed Alnaouq and Pam Bailey
More than ten years of writing by young people in Gaza, gathered as lives, ambitions, losses, and futures rather than a casualty count.
This anthology gathers writing from the Gaza-based project We Are Not Numbers, founded in 2014 to help young Palestinians tell their own stories in English. The pieces span more than a decade. They hold fear and bereavement, but also libraries imagined, buildings someone hopes to repair, ordinary ambitions, humour, and the work of making a future.
Edited by Ahmed Alnaouq and Pam Bailey, the collection is valuable precisely because no single narrator is asked to stand for Gaza. Its writers appear as students, artists, scientists, and neighbours: many lives in one place, speaking in their own registers.
