Ten Myths About Israel
Ilan Pappé
Pappé's point-by-point demolition of the ten claims that structure mainstream debate about Israel and Palestine — a compact rebuttal handbook for general readers.
Published on the fiftieth anniversary of the 1967 war, Ilan Pappé’s short, sharp book takes apart ten claims that structure mainstream discussion of Israel and Palestine: that Palestine was an empty land; that the Jews were a people without a land; that Zionism is simply Judaism, and not colonialism; that the Palestinians left their homes voluntarily in 1948; that the June 1967 war was a war of “no choice”; that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East; that the Oslo agreements were a generous peace offer; that Israel’s treatment of Gaza is a matter of pure self-defense; and that the two-state solution remains the only way forward. Each chapter traces a myth’s origins, measures it against the historical record, and shows what work it does in the present. Written for general readers rather than scholars, the book functions as a point-by-point rebuttal handbook — a compact companion for anyone who regularly confronts these arguments.
