Palestine: A Socialist Introduction
Edited by Sumaya Awad and brian bean
A primer, by and for organizers, on Palestinian liberation as a struggle against settler colonialism, imperialism, and capitalism.
What does socialism have to do with Palestine? Everything, argue the editors of this primer: Zionism is a settler-colonial project sustained by imperialism, and Palestinian liberation is inseparable from the wider struggle against capitalism and empire. Across a dozen essays, the book introduces readers to the history of the Nakba and the Oslo process, the politics of the Palestinian Authority and the international aid industry, the boycott movement and the politics of resistance, and the intersections of Palestinian liberation with Black liberation, labor, and indigenous struggles in the United States. Contributors include Omar Barghouti, Nada Elia, Toufic Haddad, Remi Kanazi, Jehad Abusalim, and Khury Petersen-Smith. Written by organizers for organizers, the book insists that solidarity must be more than humanitarian — that winning freedom in Palestine requires building a movement with the social power to confront the system that profits from denying it.
