Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association

Addameer is a Palestinian non-governmental, civil institution that works to support Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli and Palestinian prisons. Its name is Arabic for “conscience.” It offers legal aid, advocates against arbitrary detention and torture, and documents violations of prisoners’ rights.

The organization has been particularly prominent in campaigns against administrative detention — imprisonment without charge or trial that can be renewed indefinitely. Its lawyers and researchers have brought cases before Israeli military courts, the Israeli Supreme Court, and international human rights mechanisms.
