George Abraham

A Palestinian American poet of diaspora, queerness, and survival, Abraham writes in the space between languages — "for yesterday & her inherited traumas."

Palestinian-Americandiasporapoetryqueerspoken word

George Abraham is a Palestinian American poet from Jacksonville, Florida, who grew up on unceded Timucuan lands. They are the author of Birthright (2020) — winner of the Big Other Book Award and a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award — and of the chapbooks al youm: for yesterday & her inherited traumas (The Atlas Review, 2017) and the specimen’s apology (2019).

A graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard University, where he earned a doctorate in bioengineering, Abraham moves between science and poetry: their work has appeared in the Paris Review, the American Poetry Review, and the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series, and they serve as executive editor of Mizna, the journal of Arab American literature. He is a Kundiman and Watering Hole fellow and a board member of the Radius of Arab American Writers (RAWI).
