Suwar al-Jamasi

Suwar Obeida al-Jamasi was four years old — a photograph her family shared shows a small girl in a red and purple sweater, smiling faintly into the camera. She lived in Gaza City’s al-Sabra neighborhood with her parents, Obeida Muhammad al-Jamasi, 29, and Malak Manar Farwana, 26, her one-year-old brother Muhammad, and the wider family of her grandfather Muhammad Daoud al-Jamasi.

At dawn on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, an Israeli airstrike hit the family home. Nine were killed, according to Airwars, which matched their names to the Gaza health ministry’s fatalities list: Suwar and her brother; her parents; her grandparents Muhammad Daoud al-Jamasi and Nasreen Saleh Abdo, 49; her uncle Omar, 15, and her aunt Layan, 16; and a cousin, Umm Khader. The bodies were recovered from the rubble only on March 22, according to posts cited by Airwars.

The Israeli military confirmed the strike the next day, announcing it had “eliminated” Muhammad al-Jamasi, whom it called the head of Hamas’s Emergency Committee and a “terrorist”; the Jerusalem Post reported him among six Hamas figures killed in that morning’s strikes. Airwars notes that membership of Hamas’s political and administrative bodies does not by itself establish militant status under its methodology, and graded the strike “declared” with civilian harm “fair.” Nothing in the Israeli statement acknowledged the eight family members killed with him — three women and four children.
