Mohammed Qreiqeh

Mohammed Qreiqeh, 33, was an Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza City who reported through nearly two years of war as international media remained barred from the Strip. His last broadcast aired only minutes before his death, the network said.

At 11:22 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, an Israeli drone fired a single missile at the Al Jazeera tent inside the al-Shifa medical complex in Gaza City, where the network’s team was based, journalist Wadeaa Abu Al-Saud, who was about forty meters away and was himself grazed by shrapnel, told the Committee to Protect Journalists. The strike killed the network’s entire four-person staff team in the city: correspondents Anas al-Sharif — who is also remembered in this memorial — and Qreiqeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal, along with two freelancers, one of whom was working for Al Jazeera. It was among the deadliest single attacks on journalists of the war, and came days before Israel launched its operation to seize Gaza City.

Israel’s military immediately claimed responsibility for the strike, alleging that al-Sharif led a Hamas cell and citing documents it said proved he was a Hamas operative integrated into Al Jazeera; it made no allegation against Qreiqeh or the other journalists killed. CPJ said the images published were clearly not credible original documents, and Al Jazeera condemned the “targeted assassination” of its journalists as a premeditated attack on press freedom. UN human rights experts named Qreiqeh among the dead and said the killings were “no coincidence, but a deliberate attempt to silence those who would have exposed the IDF’s atrocities to the world,” demanding an immediate independent investigation.
