Ibrahim Zaher, 25, an Al Jazeera camera operator, was killed with four colleagues when an Israeli missile struck the network's tent at al-Shifa Hospital — the channel's entire Gaza City team, lost in a single strike that press-freedom groups called a targeted attack.
Ibrahim Zaher, 25, was a camera operator for Al Jazeera in Gaza City, part of the small team that kept filming from the north of the Strip as the war ground through its second year and famine spread through the city.
At 11:22 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, an Israeli drone fired a single missile at the Al Jazeera tent inside the al-Shifa medical complex in Gaza City, an eyewitness about forty meters away told the Committee to Protect Journalists. The strike killed the network’s entire four-person staff team in the city — correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh and camera operators Zaher and Mohammed Noufal — as well as two freelancers, one of whom was working for Al Jazeera. Israel’s military said it had targeted al-Sharif, alleging he was a Hamas operative, and made no mention of the other journalists killed; CPJ said the images the military published to support its claim were not credible.
UN human rights experts named Zaher among the dead in a statement “appalled” by what they called the murder of the Al Jazeera correspondents, describing the strike as a deliberate attempt to silence reporting ahead of Israel’s takeover of Gaza City and demanding an immediate independent investigation. The strike brought to ten the number of Al Jazeera staff journalists killed by Israel in Gaza during the war, in addition to nine journalists who had freelanced for the broadcaster, according to CPJ data.

Israel's military alleged that one of those killed, Anas al-Sharif, was a militant, but said nothing about Zaher or the other journalists; CPJ documented the strike as targeted. No investigation into the attack is known to have taken place.
