Why an archive is opening a media desk

This site was built for the long life of a source. A village record should still mean the same thing next month. A quotation should still open onto the document that carries it. A legal finding should not grow broader because a headline needs more force.

But the record is asked to speak in the present too. Events move quickly; arguments repeat; a document enters the news stripped of the history that makes it legible. Palestinians are then invited to react to somebody else’s frame.

Dispatches is the place where this archive will answer in its own voice. It is not a replacement for the archive. It is a dated, bylined layer beside it.

What belongs at this desk

Analysis, explainers, interviews, reporting notes, commentary and original video. Each piece should begin with a real question and end with a trail a skeptical reader can follow.

The archive gives this desk an unusual advantage: a current story can open directly onto the village, person, timeline entry, book, testimony or primary document beneath it. The purpose is not to make the news slower. It is to keep speed from erasing context.

What will not be blurred

An archive entry and an editorial judgment are different things. So are a documented fact and an interpretation of it. So are a publication we read and a partner who has agreed to work with us.

Those distinctions will remain visible:

• Every dispatch carries a publication date and a byline.
• Sources sit on the page, not in a private research file.
• Analysis names itself as analysis.
• A correction is dated and shown; it is not a quiet rewrite.
• Work published elsewhere is linked and attributed, not copied into our voice.
• “Partner” is used only after an actual agreement exists.

A Palestinian voice cannot be simulated

The ambition is a Palestinian-led desk: Palestinian writers, researchers, artists, witnesses and guests speaking from knowledge and experience. The site will not manufacture that experience in an institutional byline. A personal essay must belong to a named person who has lived and approved its words.

Until then, the editorial desk can do honest institutional work: open the document, trace the claim, show the map, state the limit, and make room for the person whose voice should lead.

The standard travels with the work

The format may change—article, short video, interview, source briefing—but the covenant does not. The record stays checkable. Disagreement stays named. Uncertainty stays visible. And if the evidence is thin, the sentence waits.

That is how an archive becomes present without becoming disposable.

How video enters the desk

The channel begins with real Palestinian voices and primary footage. Its first source dossier is Ghassan Kanafani’s 1970 interview with Richard Carleton: the official ABC recording is linked now, while any copied excerpt waits for written rights clearance.
