Umm az-Zinat

Umm az-Zinat stood on a rocky cliff on the southeastern shoulder of Mount Carmel, twenty and a half kilometres from Haifa, among the ten largest villages of its subdistrict with 1,470 people and the largest unbroken expanse of olive trees in the subdistrict — about 1,834 dunums, pressed at four manual presses. The Golani Brigade's Fourth Battalion took it on 15 May 1948 and expelled those who had stayed. In August troops returned with orders to kill any men and expel any women they found; at least two men were killed.
