Suruh was a hamlet on a rocky hill above Tarbikha, twenty-eight and a half kilometres from Acre, a kilometre from the village whose school its children attended and whose services it used. It was among the first communities expelled in the army's campaign to clear the northern border in the second week of November 1948. Morris's account does not say whether its people were forced into Lebanon or trucked elsewhere inside Israel; for weeks afterwards the army raided the emptied villages to make sure nobody had returned.
