Suhmata

Suhmata stood on two hilltops at six hundred metres in the upper Galilee, a village of 1,130 Muslims and Christians holding 17,056 dunums in 1944/45, with a Byzantine church of 555 CE and a Crusader castle on its ground. It was bombed from the air on 28 October 1948 and taken on 30 October by the Golani Brigade's First Battalion during Operation Hiram. The site was renamed Tzuriel and made ready for Jewish immigrants by May 1949.
