Sarafand al-'Amar
صَرَفَنْد العَمار
Sarafand al-'Amar — Sarafand al-Kubra, the larger of the two Sarafands — held 1,950 people, the shrine of Luqman al-Hakim, and the al-Raja' orphanage for the children of Palestinians killed in the 1936–39 revolt, beside the largest British military base in the Middle East. The Giv'ati Brigade's Second Battalion probably took it on the night of 19–20 May 1948. The site is now a closed Israeli military area; no more than six houses remain.
