Sar'a was a village of 340 people in three quarters on a white chalk hill, with the maqam of al-Nabi Samat on the slope to the south. Egyptian forces defended it; the Har'el Brigade's Fourth Battalion took it on 13–14 July 1948, in preparation for the attack on 'Artuf.
