Salama

Salama, the largest village on Jaffa's eastern approaches and home of the shrine of the Prophet's companion Salama Abu Hashim, fought off attack after attack from December 1947 — the Haganah's own history calls its December assault 'the first attack on an Arab village' — before falling on 29 April 1948. Its mosque, shrine, and shuttered houses stand inside Tel Aviv's sprawl.
