Jusayr

Jusayr stood between two bridges over Wadi al-Jira, a grain village of 1,180 whose elders said it had been a stopping place for pilgrims going to Mecca. Israeli sources put its occupation in the second half of July 1948, in the Giv'ati offensive whose orders were to break through the Egyptian lines and expel the civilians of the ground taken; two Egyptian sources, one of them Gamal Abdel Nasser, date it a month earlier, during the first truce. One house stands in a peach orchard.
