Hittin

Hittin stood below the Horns of Hattin, where Salah al-Din defeated the Crusader armies in 1187, eight kilometres from Tiberias. Its 1,190 Muslim inhabitants held 22,764 dunums in 1944/45. The Seventh Brigade took the village on 17 July 1948 during Operation Dekel; those who tried to return were fired on, and most ended in Lebanon. The mosque and the shrine of al-Nabi Shu'ayb still stand.
