Dayshum

Dayshum stood on rocky slopes above Wadi Fara twelve and a half kilometres from Safad, a village of 590 with three mills and gabled roofs. Some of its people were descended from Algerians who had fought beside 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jaza'iri against the French and came east after his banishment in 1847, and because some of their ancestors had been horsemen the villagers of Dayshum kept a keen interest in raising horses. Benny Morris writes that the village was already empty when Israeli forces entered on 30 October 1948, probably evacuated when news arrived of the massacres at Safsaf and Jish.
