Dayr Rafat

دَيْر رافات

Jerusalem districtDepopulated 1948

Dayr Rafat was a village of 430 people — a hundred of them Christians — grown up around a large monastery of the Latin Patriarchate. The Har'el Brigade overran it on 17–18 July 1948; most of the village was blown up in September, during the second truce. The monastery still owns the land.
