Bayt Jirja

بَيْت جِرْجا

Gaza districtDepopulated 1948

Bayt Jirja, fifteen and a half kilometres northeast of Gaza, had 940 residents in 1944/45. Its occupation date is not settled: cited records give 30 October, 1 November, or 4–5 November 1948 while also allowing that it may have occurred several days earlier. A 1992 survey recorded rubble, old streets and one standing house; the sources also disagree over whether three nearby settlements count as being on village land.
