Bayt 'Itab was a village of 540 people on a rocky knoll seventeen kilometres west of Jerusalem, with a Crusader fortress in the middle of it and a large cavern running beneath the houses. In the 1850s it was the seat of the Lahham family, who controlled twenty-four villages. The Har'el Brigade took it on 21 October 1948.
