'Artuf

عَرْتُوف

Jerusalem districtDepopulated 1948

'Artuf was a village of 350 people beside the Zionist settlement of Hartuv, whose Bulgarian settlers leased land to Arab cultivators — an arrangement mainstream Zionist organisations objected to. Mortared out on the night of 17–18 July 1948, its people walked three miles uphill to Dayr al-Hawa.
