The northernmost of the three Sawafir villages on the coastal plain, 33 kilometers northeast of Gaza, with a population the British government's April 1945 survey estimated at 680, all Muslims. It was occupied and depopulated during Operation Barak in May 1948; the reached sources give occupation dates ranging from 11 to 18 May.
