Al-Sawafir al-Gharbiyya

Al-Sawafir al-Gharbiyya was the western of three villages of the same name that stood together in a right triangle on the coastal plain, sharing one school between them. Israeli sources put its fall in the early stages of Operation Barak in May 1948; Gamal Abdel Nasser, then a junior officer nearby, dated it a month later and blamed the Egyptian command for letting empty villages be taken. Every house is gone; the old village road is still visible.
