Al-Maliha

المالِحَة

Jerusalem districtDepopulated 1948

Al-Maliha was a village of 1,940 people five kilometres from Jerusalem, close enough to have become one of its suburbs. It emptied in two waves — after Deir Yassin in April 1948, then under direct attack in mid-July. Its houses, school and the mosque of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab are still standing inside West Jerusalem.
