Al-Maghar

Al-Maghar — 'the cave' — stood on three low hills twelve kilometers from Ramla, a village of 1,740 whose people put up 5,000 Palestinian pounds of their own to build a school on twenty-two dunums. The Giv'ati Brigade took it on 15 May 1948 at the opening of Operation Barak; the Jewish National Fund began levelling it in June, and Yosef Weitz went to watch three tractors finish the work.
