Al-Khalasa

Al-Khalasa was built by Muslim Bedouin of the Azazma tribe in the early twentieth century among the ruins of Elusa, the Nabataean and Byzantine city that had been the capital of Palaestina Tertia. It stood twenty-three kilometres from Bir al-Sabi', with an elementary school opened in 1941. Its people were displaced in the war of 1948; the Negev Brigade held the area, and the site is now used for military training.
