Al-Kafrayn

Al-Kafrayn — "the two villages" — stood on a hilltop of gentle slopes and shallow wadis twenty-nine and a half kilometres from Haifa, with a mosque, a school founded around 1888 and about ten wells and springs on its land. It was one of the villages Ben-Gurion and the Haganah command decided to attack and destroy after refusing the Arab Liberation Army's ceasefire offer at Mishmar ha-Emek. The Palmach took it on 12 April 1948 and postponed the final demolition a week in order to use it for training in built-up-area fighting: on 19 April the General Staff was told the exercises had ended and the village had been blown up completely.
