Al-Jura — Jurat Asqalan — stood a kilometer from the sea five kilometers west of al-Majdal, one of the main fishing centers in Palestine and the summer resort of al-Majdal, with an annual spring mawsim that drew the whole district. It was almost certainly taken with al-Majdal on 4–5 November 1948 at the end of Operation Yoav, after weeks of aerial bombardment. Ashkelon was built on its land; one village house was spared.
