Al-Ja'una

Al-Ja'una stood on a slope of Mount Kan'an five kilometres from Safad, and it was from its villagers that the land for the first Zionist settlement in the Galilee, Ro'sh Pinna, was bought in 1878. Its people were evacuated in the first days of May 1948 or on 9 May, with the final attack on Safad — Morris gives both. Some were still there in June 1949, when army trucks surrounded the village at midnight on the 5th and forced them aboard, dumping them near Akbara. Rosh Pinna now occupies the site, and many of the village houses are still standing.
