Hebron districtDepopulated 1948

Al-Dawayima was one of the largest villages of the Hebron hills, with 3,710 people and more than 60,000 dunums of land in 1944/45. On 29 October 1948, during Operation Yoav, the 89th Battalion of Israel's Eighth Armoured Brigade entered the village and killed civilians in the houses, in the mosque and at the mouth of a cave. The moshav of Amatzya was built on its land in 1955.
