Al-'Abisiyya

Al-'Abisiyya stood on flat ground in the northeastern Hula plain close to the Syrian border, twenty-eight and a half kilometres from Safad, its crops irrigated from the Banyas and its drinking water from the springs that fed the river. Its people fled on 25 May 1948 under the psychological-warfare campaign that ran alongside Operation Yiftach, though Morris allows that the village may also have been attacked outright. A week earlier, on 18 May, the members of Kibbutz Sde Nechemya had already written to the Agricultural Centre asking — "somewhat shamefacedly" — for 1,700 dunums of its land.
