28-year-old killed seeking flour for his family
Bilal el-Essi, a football-mad 28-year-old from Gaza City who was quick with a joke, went to the seafront Al Rashid Road with two of his brothers in the pre-dawn dark of 29 February 2024, joining hundreds waiting in the cold for a rare convoy of food aid. He was killed when Israeli forces opened fire on the crowd — the aid-convoy killings Gaza's Health Ministry says left at least 112 people dead and more than 750 wounded, remembered as the flour massacre.
